Selecting the right tutor for your child can feel like a guessing game for most families - LET'S CHANGE IT TODAY!

The primary transition for your 3rd graders is they are no longer learning how to read but instead reading to learn a higher level of content materials. Therefore, the length of books becomes chapter books, needing to apply more complex reading strategies to understand the text. They should be able to:
  • Apply reading strategies such as asking questions, making inferences, and summarizing.
  • Describe characters in a story.
  • Understand the different genres of fiction.
  • Determine the main idea and details in non-fiction texts.
  • Use and understand text features in non-fiction texts.
  • Use context clues to learn new vocabulary.
  • Compare and contrast information from contexts.

Language and Reading

By 3rd Grade, children should have become fluent readers and are expected to reach a new milestone and begin higher-level chapter books, including more profound comprehension skills as a reader.

Writing

Three types of writing in Third Grade. Third graders should know three kinds of writing styles they’ve been learning since kindergarten: opinion, informative, and narrative writing. Once your child reaches Third grade, their skills need to be more polished and have gained the ability to apply prior writing and grammar skills.

Math

Third-grade math takes students to the next level of math knowledge. They are expected to know addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, and fact families. They need to use them in equations and two-step word problems.

English as Second Language (ESL)

A student who has learned English as a Second language needs specific support in their educational career.
